Brief

Y Cymro (The Welshman) is Wales’ only Welsh language weekly newspaper and as such the task of producing a suitable web-presence for them was not undertaken lightly by Creo . We’re used to building bi-lingual sites with many, particularly Literature Wales, placing a strong emphasis on the Welsh language aspect of their design. However Y Cymro is the first exclusively Welsh language site Creo have designed. This, combined with the fact that it was for a particularly high-profile client within Wales, added its own unique challenges to the project.

Solution

Y Cymro needed the site to have a particularly advanced version of the iCreate CMS because of the frequency with which content changes on the site. Site administrators needed to be able to upload images and content daily, and in very large volumes.

The CMS was also configured so that the most recent items and articles were displayed most prominently on the homepage, and older ones automatically filed according to the date they were published. The entire copy of that week’s edition can be viewed digitally via the site once the user has confirmed their subscription details.

The site is related to the Cambrian News one we designed in 2009 (http://www.cambrian-news.co.uk/) with various listings and details for an easy breakdown of topic content, e.g. headlines, motors and sport. Both sites share prominent social media links with the ability to cross-post content from one presence to the other, via the CMS.
