There are three types of account that you can create with facebook, each behave differently so it is important that you set up the correct one.
An important factor to point out is that facebook accounts are for individual use. To have a facebook account you need to be a person. You should only have one registered account - no joint accounts and only one account per email address.
Facebook has been known to delete or deactivate accounts without warning if they are in violation of this policy. More information about this can be used here: http://www.facebook.com/help/createaccount
Personal Profile
A personal profile is an account which allows you to interact with friends and family and network with other individuals. From this account you can create and join groups & fan pages, you will also be able to manage these accounts from your main log in and purchase paid advertising.
Group
Groups provide a closed space for small groups of people to communicate about shared interests. Groups can be created by anyone. A group has privacy setting where you can restrict access to people within the group. Pages (or fan page) Pages are for professional or official use, and allow an organization, business, celebrity or band to maintain a presence on Facebook. You may only create Facebook Pages to represent real organizations of which you are an authorized representative.
Setting up a page for your business
With a personal profile
If you have a facebook profile you should create your business page via your personal profile. You would become an admin of this page. You would also be able to set other people up as admins. People who choose to connect to your Page won't be able to see that you are the Page admin or have any access to your personal account. Unlike with friends for personal accounts, there's no limit to the number of people who can like a Facebook Page.
Without a personal profile
If you do not have a facebook profile then you can still create a page by going to http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php.
